What Sunder Nursery Is

What Sunder Nursery Is

Sunder Nursery is a public heritage park where gardens and historic structures share a 90-acre landscape beside Humayun’s Tomb. Delhi Tourism says it opened to the public in 2018 after a decade of landscape and conservation works.

The park brings together a green setting and a substantial heritage collection: 20 structures stand within its grounds, six of them UNESCO World Heritage monuments. That mix makes it easy to spend time among the gardens while also seeing architecture from different periods.

Gardens, Water Features and Heritage Structures

Gardens, Water Features and Heritage Structures

Sunder Nursery has eight named gardens and two suggested routes that connect its planted areas with historic features. You can choose a garden-focused wander or use the routes to give the visit a clear sequence.

The gardens are Azim Bagh, Garden of Delight, Gulistan, Canna Garden, Flower Valley, Lotus Garden, Herb Garden and Secret Garden. A route through the grounds can also take in water features and smaller heritage sites alongside the better-known monuments.

The Scenic Walk Route passes Mirza Muzaffar Hussain Mausoleum and its garden, Garden Pavilion, Archaeological Remains, Historic Well, Flower Valley and the 17th-century Lotus Pond. The World Heritage Sites Route includes Mirza Muzaffar Hussain’s Mausoleum, 16th-century Chota Batashewala, Mughal Mausoleum, Sunderwala Mahal, Sunder Burj and Lakkarwala Burj.

The gardens are largely flat, with concrete paths in most places, and most monuments have level or ramped access. Monument plinths have steps at their entrances. The Wilderness Zone is accessible, but its path may be steep for people using manual wheelchairs or walkers, and some soft-earth sections may require assistance.

The park has two toilet blocks, near the Batashewala Entry Plaza and at Azim Bagh at the northern end; both have wheelchair-accessible cubicles. Three parking spaces at the Batashewala entry plaza are reserved for visitors with disabilities.

You can bring a leashed pet, provided you clean up after it. Picnics are permitted if you take all trash with you. Cycling is allowed on marked bicycle paths but is prohibited around historic monuments. Areas under construction may be inaccessible, so check Sunder Nursery’s official Facebook page for maintenance or unforeseen closures.

Planning a Visit from the Hotel

Planning a Visit from the Hotel

Allow about 14 minutes by car from the Beaufort Inn to Sunder Nursery; Beaufort Inn rooms near Nizamuddin put the hotel in the area.

Delhi Tourism identifies Jangpura on the Violet Line as the nearest metro station, while Supreme Court station on the Blue Line and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium station are also named as options. Short-trip auto-rickshaws are available from those stations.

For a visit focused on gardens and outdoor routes, decide which of the two suggested walks fits your interests before entering. If access is a consideration, the mostly flat paths and wheelchair provision may help with planning, while the Wilderness Zone and monument plinths have specific obstacles to keep in mind.

Pairing the Nursery with Humayun’s Tomb

Sunder Nursery sits beside Humayun’s Tomb, making the two heritage sites a natural pairing for a day in the area. The park is two minutes from the tomb.

Start with the park’s gardens and route-linked structures, then continue to the tomb complex if you want to see more of the shared heritage setting. For tomb entry and what to see there, use this guide to Humayun’s Tomb tickets, hours and sights.
